Adobe Flash is dead and it’s been dead for a while but you will still find traces of it on your system, in your browser, and on certain websites. This year marks the absolute end to all updates and bug fixes to Adobe Flash so it’s the perfect time to rid your system of it.
Since Adobe Flash is tricky to get rid of, Microsoft has released an update that will remove it from a Windows 10 system completely. This update isn’t available via Windows Updates, not even as an optional update.
The Windows update that can remove Adobe Flash from Windows 10 can be downloaded from the Microsoft Update Catalog.
Warning: This update, once installed CANNOT be uninstalled. The change is permanent. The only way to ‘undo’ it is to install Windows 10 fresh,
If you’re not sure which update to download, read the name/description of the update in the Title column and Products column.
This update will remove most Adobe Flash from the system however, it will still be present in Edge. The Flash item from the Control Panel will be removed. As for other traces of it, they will still remain in browsers. Microsoft will likely release another update either for Edge or for Windows 10.
Many browsers may have their setting/option for removing Flash. Check online for when it will be deprecated for your browser or how you can remove it manually. You may not be able to remove a small subset f websites after this but Flash, at this point, isn’t secure and you’re better off not visiting websites that still use it.
